Landlocked Austria is located in Europe’s heart and boasts some of the most stunning lofty environments of anywhere, residing as the country does throughout much of the mighty Alps. This friendly nation is one of fabulous countryside, enormous ski resorts, renowned composers and brilliant cities, where architectural styles evoke feelings of the once dominating Habsburgs who for centuries ruled over central Europe. Car hire in Austria might be the greatest option for those wishing to tour this small country.

Situated within less than four miles from Innsbruck, the Igls ski resort is one of the nation’s most popular winter sports attractions. Beautifully situated at the Patscherköfel Mountain’s base, this small Alpine resort offers excellent skiing, scenic hiking trails, good accommodation and a laid-back ambience.

Austria’s capital, Vienna is a lively and cosmopolitan city representing strong culture and traditions, the Habsburg dynasty’s remnants. Cheap car hire in Austria can be booked for the most rewarding city sightseeing tours. Formerly the Habsburg family’s imperial residence, the Hofburg boasts 13th century churches and decadent buildings. Another feature that shouldn’t be missed visiting is the Sigmund Freud Museum, displaying possessions and documents of the famous psychiatrist.

Positioned on the Salzach River is the idyllic town of Salzburg, which is most known for being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birthplace. Salzburg’s old part of town is a Baroque treasure, crammed with plazas, galleries, castles and exquisite churches, where the delightful ambience can be absorbed from several cozy cafes.

The panoramic countryside of Austria is dotted with medieval castles and snow-capped mountains in the winter season. Austria’s rural landscapes are best explored by private hire car. Along the way, drivers will find numerous fascinating villages and towns worth stopping in to soak up the local flavour. Car rental in Austria is offered by the most known international companies such as Avis, Hertz, Budget and National.

With the opening up of much of Europe under the EU, it is now easier than ever to drive almost completely around the continent unhindered for EU nationals. Picking up cheap car hire in Europe and driving yourself around is the best bet for getting about.

Most of the roads throughout Europe are in good condition as most members are fairly affluent, plus the stipulation of being an EU member. In particular, driving anywhere in Scandinavia, Germany, France, Spain and the UK to a lesser extent with car rental in Europe is a pleasure.

You can fly to almost any sizeable city within Europe and pick up a hire car at the airport, or indeed, do a complete tour from the UK making use of ferries or the Channel Tunnel. Prices for car hire in Europe are roughly the same between countries and will generally come with comprehensive insurance at the main firms.

Coming from the UK, most people head south through France and into Spain. Both of these countries have exceptional road networks, with tolled and un-tolled motorways between major centers and a fine network of country roads. From the south of France, you could continue along the French Riviera with car rental in Europe and head into northern Italy.

Switzerland is just north of here, while Austria and Eastern Europe are farther east. A tour of the continental Scandinavian countries with car hire in Europe is also fun during the summer months, including through Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
