The roads with car rental in Cyprus are pretty rough, however, and local drivers erratic, although outside the main cities it is not too stressful. Lefkosa (Nicosia) is the capital of Cyprus and remains divided between the north and south by a long, green line.
The southern part is the nicest, with its 16th century Venetian buildings and museums. Mosques and Turkish baths are frequent insights in the north and you can get there with cheap car hire in Cyprus, located as it is roughly in the center of the island.

It is quieter than the main southern resorts and is near to the ancient town of Famagusta; another important historical town.
